A huge thank you to Tamilar Inc. for setting up this wonderful celebration of Tamil New Year!
It was an honour to join the Tamil community here in Melbourne’s West in celebrating Chitirai Thiruvizha this year and I hope everyone has had a happy, safe and prosperous year.
Victoria is proud to have an ever-growing Tamil community with now more than 25,000 people. The Tamil community have made, and continue to make, significant social, cultural, and economic contributions to our state. The diverse cultural communities in Victoria are something to be proud of and annual events like this one are a big part of that.
We know how important connecting with each other, and our traditions is for our wellbeing and events like this one are the perfect way to help foster that community energy and start the year off with hope and optimism.
I would like to thank everyone who came along for this wonderful evening of music, dance, and celebration.
