Werribee Mercy Hospital is receiving $109.6 million to expand it’s emergency department so that it can treat an extra 25,000 patients each year. This will double it’s current capacity by 2025.
Werribee Mercy’s current emergency department has treatment spaces for 33 patients, which will increase to 67 with the completion of tis project. This will include 16 short stay beds, 36 emergency care cubicles to care for the rapidly growing population in Melbourne’s West.

Emergency Departments have been under extreme pressure following the COVID-19 pandemic, that’s why alongside these expansions the Victorian government has introduced 20new Priority Primary Care Clinics.
Priority Primary Care Centres (PPCCs) provide GP-led care to people who need urgent care, but not an emergency response. This includes conditions like mild infections and burns, suspected fractures or broken bones. They also offer pathology and imaging services.
Werribee Priority Primary Care Centre has been set up to support Werribee Mercy Hospital and is located at 1/5 Station Place, Werribee.
This centre will help locals who need urgent care get help faster, while keeping our busy emergency departments free for those in critical, life-threatening situations.
The Allan Labor Government is continuing to deliver for Melbourne’s west with two new train stations and planning upgrades for a third – improving safety, accessibility and better connecting locals for years to come.
